This course provides training for people who are required to work and control traffic with a Stop/Slow bat. You will learn to:

Overview Implement Traffic Control Plans

This course provides training for personnel who are required to set up and work with Traffic Control Guidance Plans/Traffic Control Plans at a work site. You will learn to:

  • Identify safety implications of traffic control at road works and personal responsibilities
  • Set up and close down traffic control devices according to a nominated TCGS/TCP
  • Check, clean and store equipment on completion of work and close down a TCP

Detailed Description

Traffic Controller

This is a Roads and Maritime NSW approved training program. Graduates from the program will be able to gain a licence for Traffic Controller in NSW and the ACT and they will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for RIISS00044 Work Zone Traffic Control – Traffic Controller Skill Set.

Pre-requisites

  • There are no formal pre-requisites; however
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Provide valid form of photo ID.
  • Successfully complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test prior to enrolment.
  • Enclosed robust footwear at all times (preferably steel cap safety boots or shoes on practical assessment day) and neat, tidy attire. Please dress appropriately for practical training sessions as you will be outside, this means strong and durable yet comfortable clothing i.e. jeans, work trousers for both males and females.

Who is this training for?

  • Personnel who are required to control traffic with a Stop/Slow bat.
  • Field Staff.

Content

The training will cover three Units of Competency from the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package:

  • RIIWHS201D Work safely and follow WHS policies and work procedures
  • RIICOM201D Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIWHS205D Control traffic with a stop/slow bat

Duration: 8 hours

Price: $225 for new/existing workers and $180 for re-certification. There is an additional charge of $22 for the competency photo-card fee collected on behalf of RMS. Any additional live assessment required on site, will be charged at $50 per visit.

Assessment

The course activities you will participate in, include, classroom work and simulation, theory questionnaires and group activities and practical traffic control simulation using full scale devices and vehicles in controlled and safe environments. In addition to the activities that you participate in, you will need to complete the following assessment:

  • Theory questionnaires and activities
  • On the job practical application and observation (this will need to be conducted on 2 occasions on at work sites)
  • Provision of workplace samples and documentation

Outcome

On successful completion of the training, participants receive an RMS NSW Statement of Completion (SOC) valid for 90 days. You can start work with this immediately as it is recognised and endorsed by RMS. Within the 90 day period participants must have their final assessment take place on a live project on at least two occasions. Star Training will assist to facilitate this. Once participants complete the final assessment they will also receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for RIISS00044 Work Zone Traffic Control – Traffic Controller Skill Set and Star Training can then organise with RMS for their photo competency card to be issued.

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Provide valid form of photo ID.
  • Successfully complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test prior to enrolment.
  • Enclosed robust footwear at all times (preferably steel cap safety boots or shoes on practical assessment day) and neat, tidy attire. Please dress appropriately for practical training sessions as you will be outside, this means strong and durable yet comfortable clothing i.e. jeans, work trousers for both males and females.

  • RIICOM201D Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIWHS302D Implement traffic management plan
  • Students who have already completed Traffic Controller will be given Credit Transfer for RIIWHS201D and RIICOM201D

Duration: 7 hours

Price: $250 for new/existing workers and $220 for re-certification. There is an additional charge of $22 for the competency photo-card fee collected on behalf of RMS. Any additional live assessment required on site, will be charged at $50 per visit.

Assessment

The course activities you will participate in, include, classroom work and simulation, theory questionnaires and group activities and practical implementation, monitoring and removing TCGS/TCP’s simulation using full scale devices and vehicles in controlled and safe environments traffic control simulation using full scale devices and vehicles in controlled and safe environments. In addition to the activities that you participate in, you will need to complete the following assessment:

  • Theory questionnaires and activities
  • On the job practical application and observation (this will need to be conducted on 3 seperate live projects)
  • Provision of workplace samples and documentation

Outcome

On successful completion of the training, participants receive an RMS NSW Statement of Completion (SOC) valid for 90 days. You can start work with this immediately as it is recognised and endorsed by RMS. Combined Course – Traffic Controller & Implement Traffic Control Plans

Participants may elect to enrol and study toward both licence classes as this is the preferred skill level required by Traffic Control companies and the industry, particularly for new entrant to the market. Successful participants will receive two Statements of Completion and two Statements of Attainment for RIISS00044 Work Zone Traffic Control – Traffic Controller Skill Set and RIISS00041 Work Zone Traffic Control – Implement Traffic Control Guidance Plan Skill Set.

Price: $410 for new/existing workers and $400 for re-certification. There is an additional charge of $22 for each of the competency photo-cards, collected on behalf of RMS.
