To work in NSW as a Security Officer, new entrants will be required to complete the CPP20212 Certificate II in Security Operations and HLTAID003 Provide First Aid, comprising 15 nominated Units of Competency as required by the NSW Police Force, Security Licensing and Enforcement Directorate (SLED).

The course covers the basic legal, operational and practical skills to start working in the manpower (Class 1) sector of the security industry. Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be able to apply to SLED for their FULL NSW Class 1ACE security licence.

Once licenced, the security industry provides very good employment and recruitment outcomes for learners.

Entry Requirements

As stipulated by SLED, students must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have Australian work rights
  • You must provide 100 Points of Identification upon enrolment
  • Be a fit and proper person to hold class of licence sought
  • Meet prescribed Language, Literacy and Numeracy requirements, which include completing an LLN test prior to enrolment day. You must attend in person at a Star Training campus in order to complete the LLN testing and to read some mandatory paperwork from the NSW Police Force. This must be done before the course commences. You will not be enrolled unless LLN testing has been completed prior to the first day of training.
  • If you book a place and pay in full upfront via our website, you are still required to attend a campus several days prior to your course for skills testing. If you do not attain the required skills level prior to the course and have paid upfront, you will be refunded in full.

Duration

You have the choice of attending a DAY COURSE, EVENING COURSE or WEEKEND COURSE, comprising 102 hours of face to face learning in a classroom and simulated work environment.

  • Day Course: This runs over 10 days. Monday to Friday in Week 1 and Monday to Friday in Week 2. Classes start at 0800 and finish at 1900 each day.
  • Evening Course: This runs over 14 days straight. Monday to Sunday in Week 1 and Monday to Sunday in Week 2. Classes start at 1600 and finish at 2230 daily Monday to Friday and then on the Saturday and Sunday, run from 0800 to 1900.
  • Weekend Course: This runs over 5 weekends, every Saturday and Sunday from 0800 to 1900. This program is not always available as it is run based on demand, please call to enquire about availability. You can also express an interest to add your name to a waiting list for the program. HLTAID003 Provide First Aid is run separately. Courses are run regularly each week and you will be given options at enrolment or once training has started.

Location: Granville or Liverpool

Course Fee: $595 Day Programs and $690 Evening and Weekend Programs (Note: these prices include First Aid training, no extra to pay). If you have an existing First Aid certificate, you will need to provide the original copy at enrolment and the course costs will be reduced by $50.

  • Please note Star Training does not have dedicated parking. It is suggested you take public transport for the day as we are only 2 minutes walk from the Granville train station. If you drive you will need to  find a local paid parking solution.

If you are unemployed and receive Newstart Allowance from Centrelink, we provide a Concession price of $450 (inclusive of First Aid). This must be paid in person at one of our campuses or via your Job Provider and you must provide evidence of current Newstart status. This is only for Newstart recipients, no other concessions are provided.
